LICHTROUTEN was founded in 2002 as one of the first curated festivals of light in Germany. To
date, it is an international exhibition project dedicated to light as material and media in modern
and contemporary art. Bettina Pelz and Tom Groll have curated it since 2002. For each iteration,
they develop a site- and context-specific concept, including a dedicated art-in-dialogue program
with a longstanding community of volunteers.

LICHTROUTEN aims to reflect on the city’s development, the collective use of public space, and the role of
art in urban culture.
